In a story first shared on the NSW Department of Education’s News Hub, journalist Natassia Soper captured the excitement and focus of our Year 12 Advanced English class during their final study session with Head Teacher English, Mrs Bronwyn Dalton.
“My advice would be to start the day really well, have a good breakfast and when you get into the exam just remember this is the culmination of years of hard work,” Mrs Dalton said.
“Take a deep breath, don’t stop writing when you are in there, and rely on your memory because it will all come to you.”
Student voices also featured strongly in the coverage, reflecting the determination and maturity of our Class of 2025:
Laila Zakeli, who recently received the Minister’s Award for Excellence in Student Achievement, shared her mindset going into exams:
“I drove into school this morning and thought, I am ready to finish school and try my hardest and feeling confident that it is nearly over.”
Charlize Colwell acknowledged the encouragement she’s received from staff and classmates:
“I am nervous, but I have worked so hard and am feeling pretty confident. The teachers have prepped us well and we hype each other up — that’s contributed to our positive attitude.”
Johnathan Criado, one of 17 OFHS students to receive early university offers, offered a message for his peers:
“To all my classmates, good luck, don’t stress, breathe and take your time.”
The story has been widely shared — appearing on the NSW Department of Education’s News Hub, ABC Illawarra, and Illawarra Mercury, with the WIN News Illawarra segment syndicated across NSW, including Wagga and Orange.
Principal Ms Byron said:
“A big thanks to Mrs Dalton and her Advanced English students for participating in the HSC media coverage. We have so much to be proud of! It’s wonderful to see our school being highlighted in the regional coverage.”
We’re incredibly proud of all our Year 12 students. You’ve shown focus, resilience, and teamwork — and we know you’ll do your best. 🌟
