Travel to school

Starting high school brings new opportunities for independence — and for many students, that includes travelling to and from school on their own. Learning how to get to school safely and confidently is an important part of the transition to secondary school.

Our students arrive in a variety of ways — walking or riding along the pathways beside Lake Illawarra, travelling by bus, or being dropped off by family. However they travel, we want every journey to be safe, positive and a great start to the day.

Plan your school travel below by checking out our location map, public transport options and driving details below to help make the journey to school safe and easy.

Walking and Riding to School

One of the wonderful things about our school setting is that, for many families, students are able to walk or ride to school along the shores of Lake Illawarra. Meeting friends on the pathway, enjoying fresh air before the bell and arriving together helps students feel connected and ready for the day ahead.

Regular physical activity before school supports focus, energy and overall wellbeing, helping students feel alert and prepared for learning. Travelling actively also builds independence and fosters a strong connection to our local environment and community.

Students riding to school must wear an approved helmet, follow NSW road rules and shared pathway guidelines, ride responsibly, and dismount when entering school grounds. We ask families to ensure devices are road-legal and appropriate for student use before travelling to school.

Please plan safe routes together and discuss road safety and shared pathway expectations to keep our students and community safe.

E-Bike and E-Scooter Safety

With the increasing use of e-bikes and e-scooters, student safety remains a priority. We encourage families to stay informed about current NSW laws and safety requirements for bikes, e-bikes and e-scooters. Rules regarding where devices can be ridden, helmet requirements and age restrictions can change over time.

For the most up-to-date information, please refer to:

Bikes and scooters are brought to school at the owner’s risk. We recommend students bring a lock or security device. All bikes and scooters must be stored in the Bike Compound during school hours.

Driving and parking

The start and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and drivers. Student safety is always our priority, particularly around the main entrance where many students are walking.

To help keep everyone safe, we ask families to:

For convenience, our street design makes it easy to complete a loop using the roundabouts at either end if parking spaces are temporarily full.

Families may also consider using the Government Avenue bus bay entrance at the rear of the school as an alternative drop-off location.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in helping create a safe and respectful environment for our students and community.

Parking on school grounds

There is no public vehicle access to our school grounds or staff carpark. All students and parents are required to park offsite on surrounding streets.

Access to on-site parking may be arranged for students with a disability or mobility needs. Families requiring assistance are encouraged to contact the school to discuss appropriate arrangements. Contact us
