Resources and technology
Our school uses modern technology and digital learning tools. Our resources help students learn, create and stay connected. As a NSW public school, we have access to shared programs and tools available to all schools in the state.

Information Centre
Our Information Centre is more than just a library – it’s a welcoming space where students can read, learn and be inspired. Thanks to a generous $10,000 donation from the Dymocks Children’s Charities, our shelves are brimming with new titles, including books specially created to support readers with dyslexia. We’re also proud to run the Renaissance Reading Program, encouraging every student to explore new stories, set goals, and grow a lifelong love of reading. At Oak Flats High School, our Information Centre is a place where curiosity is nurtured, and every reader can find a book that speaks to them.

School Gym
Oak Flats High School now has a fully equipped gym! Our former dance room has been transformed into a fantastic fitness space, complete with weight machines, rowing machines, and exercise bikes. The PDHPE faculty identified Fitness as a key interest area, providing an opportunity for students to work towards a Certificate III in Fitness.

Our technology and STEM Room.
Our Technology and STEM Room is a hub of innovation and creativity, where students bring ideas to life using a range of modern tools and equipment. With 3D printers, a laser cutter, VR goggles, and modular kits for building vehicles and machines powered by rubber bands, students learn by doing. This hands-on approach develops problem-solving skills, engineering thinking, and teamwork, giving students the opportunity to explore STEM concepts in exciting, real-world ways.

Science laboratories
Our students explore the world of science in purpose-built, fully equipped laboratories. From conducting experiments to investigating real-world problems, students gain hands-on experience that brings theory to life. These labs provide a safe, engaging environment where curiosity and discovery are encouraged, helping students develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a love of scientific inquiry.

Hospitality facilities
Our hospitality students learn in industry-standard commercial kitchens designed to reflect the fast-paced environment of modern food service. From mastering essential cooking skills to preparing full menus, students experience the practical side of hospitality in a professional setting.
Adding to this, our on-site barista bar gives students the opportunity to train in coffee-making and customer service. These hands-on experiences build confidence, teamwork and employability skills, preparing our students for real-world pathways in hospitality and beyond.

Photography Dark Room
Our photography students benefit from access to a fully equipped darkroom, where they experience every step of traditional film photography. Learning hands-on in a working lab gives them a deep understanding of how images are created and developed — knowledge that greatly enriches their study of modern digital photography. This unique blend of old and new technologies ensures our students don’t just read about photography, they live it.

Music rooms
Our specialised music rooms are fully equipped with acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitars, drum kits, keyboards, microphones, headsets and piano. Led by dedicated and expert music teachers, these spaces provide students with the resources and guidance to develop their full vocal, instrumental, and performance abilities.

Sports fields for fitness and fun
Our students enjoy a wide range of sporting opportunities on campus, with access to the Brett Lee Oval, a full soccer field, basketball and netball courts, and outdoor volleyball courts. With Lake Illawarra as the backdrop to many of our outdoor activities, students can take part in sport in a setting that is both active and inspiring. Whether training for competition or enjoying a friendly game at lunchtime, our students have plenty of space to move, play and grow.

Wellbeing Circle
Our Wellbeing Circle is an outdoor learning space nestled beside the Information Centre and school farm. It provides a beautiful, natural setting for class activities, group discussions, and wellbeing-focused programs, giving students a calm and inspiring place to connect, reflect, and learn together.

Yarning Circle
Opened in 2023, our Yarning Circle is a special gathering place that celebrates culture, connection, and community. The space was designed by a former Oak Flats High School student as their Year 12 major project, and brought to life with a striking mural by Uncle Richard Campbell. Today, it provides a meaningful setting for outdoor learning, reflection, storytelling, and coming together as a school community.

Lake Illawarra Foreshore
Being situated near Lake Illawarra means our students can enjoy the annual cross-country carnival running along its beautiful shores. This much-loved event is a highlight of the sporting calendar, combining fitness, challenge and community spirit in one of the most picturesque settings in our region.
