Your place to learn and grow

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education

Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for 300 hours per year in Years 7 to 10.

PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.

In Year 11 and 12, courses available include:

  • Community and Family Studies
  • Exploring Early Childhood
  • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
  • Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation Studies.

Integrated sports and carnivals

Our students are also provided the opportunity to represent Oak Flats High School on a variety of competitive, non-competitive and recreational platforms. We encourage students to be successful and to enjoy the whole experience of inter-school sporting competitions. We have had remarkable success in a variety of sports including soccer, basketball, touch football, swimming and athletics with several of our students representing the southern Illawarra zone and the south coast region at state and national competitions.

At Oak Flats High School, student participation, enjoyment and skill development is the core focus of the school sport and physical activity program. With qualified and experienced staff developing our students, our aim is to give them the knowledge, understanding and practical skills needed to live an active and healthy lifestyle well past their years of schooling.
