Our policies and reports

Our policies and reports help families understand how our school works. Our annual report and school plan show what we’ve done and how we’re improving each year.  Our policies address attendance, absences, behaviour, uniform and how we respond to your concerns.

Annual school report

Each year, we share our progress in the annual school report. It gives families a clear picture of how our school is performing and how we’re supporting every student’s success. The report reflects our commitment to openness, accountability and continuous improvement.

School excellence plan

Our school excellence plan (SEP) is a working document that shows our priorities in learning, teaching and leading. It explains our focus areas for improvement and how we plan to get there. We write our SEP with help from our school community so it reflects our shared priorities.

School behaviour support and management plan

At Oak Flats High School, our Behaviour Support and Management Plan sets out how we create a safe, respectful and caring learning environment where every student is supported to succeed. The plan explains our school-wide expectations, how we teach and model positive behaviour, and the supports we have in place for students. It also outlines how we respond to inappropriate behaviour, including bullying and cyberbullying, in a fair and consistent way.

The plan highlights programs such as Check and Connect lessons, Rock and Water, Reset and Return, and our mentoring and merit systems, which all focus on building resilience, self-regulation and positive relationships. Families can also see how we work in partnership with parents and carers, and the range of supports available from our wellbeing and learning teams. Together, these strategies reflect our commitment to developing respectful, resilient and responsible learners who feel safe, supported and ready to achieve their best.

School Attendance Procedures

At Oak Flats High School, we believe every school day matters. Regular attendance helps students build strong friendships, develop positive learning habits, and reach their personal best. By being present, students open up more choices for their future – whether in further study, training, or employment.

Attendance requirements in NSW

In NSW, children from the age of 6 are legally required to attend school or be registered for home schooling through the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). Students must complete Year 10, or its equivalent.

After Year 10, until the age of 17, young people must be engaged in one of the following pathways:

Students aged 17 and over who are enrolled in school must also maintain regular attendance to meet HSC course requirements.

The role of parents and carers

We value the strong partnership between home and school. Parents and carers play a key role in supporting consistent attendance. If your child is unable to attend, please let the school know the reason within 7 days.

If you are finding it difficult to get your child to school, please know you are not alone. Oak Flats High School has a dedicated Student Attendance and Support Officer who works closely with families and can provide additional resources and support. Together, we can help students stay connected, supported, and on track for success.

School Uniform Policy

At Oak Flats High School, wearing the school uniform is mandatory for all students. Our uniform is an important part of fostering pride, safety, and a sense of belonging. It helps create equality amongst students, promotes a positive school identity, and supports a safe and respectful learning environment.
